Rex Airlines seem to have recently appeared on the scene, touting low-cost fares between major Aussie cities. But for those in regional areas Rex is a well known airline, who provide essential services across an intricate network of regional Australian towns.
Rex may also be known as Regional Express on their regional routes. They were established in 2002, and are the largest regional airline in Australia, outside the Qantas group.
They are based in Mascot, NSW and have recently announced the acquisition of the Dubbo-based airline Air Link.
They fly weekly to over 60 destinations, with up to 1500 flights a week.
Rex currently operates the world's largest fleet of Saab 340 aircraft. They have also recently agreed to lease six Boeing 737-800s, the first being delivered in November 2020. The rest will be delivered across the next two years.
Flights depart from Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and the Gold Coast. They also connect a vast range of regional airports across Australia – see their website for the full list.
Although they are fairly new to the sale game, Rex have recently come to the party with a bunch of great fares across Aus. You can keep an eye on their ‘promotions’ page on their website.
They also run ‘The Community Fare’ scheme, which provides discounted fares on participating routes for early-bird sales up to 30 days prior to departure, or for last minute purchases within 24 hours before departure time.
And, as always, you can keep an eye on our site, and we will always let you know about the awesome deals as soon as they come up.
Rex have a range of different fare types across their domestic and regional networks. These all come with different baggage restrictions, so make sure you pay attention when booking and check your ticket before you pack.
These fare types include: Promo and Saver fares, Flex, Biz Saver, Biz and Biz Plus.
Cabin baggage limits:
All fares contain a minimum of 7kg carry on/cabin baggage. Flex and BizSaver have a 10kg limit and Biz/BizPlus have a 15kg limit.
Checked baggage limits:
Regional Services
Domestic Services
Passengers connecting between Rex services are entitled to the higher of the two checked baggage allowances, providing all flights are in the same reservation.
Passengers can check in online or at the airport.
Airport counters will stop accepting passengers for check in:
Web check-in opens 48 hours and closes 60 minutes prior to scheduled departure time.
Although they don’t have one at the moment, watch this space, because it has been announced that Rex will launch a reboot of their old loyalty program, Rex Flyer rewards, sometime in 2022.
Currently the only option on offer is the Rex Business Flyer program, which allows business travellers to take advantage of cheaper flights and other benefits, including lounge access. To take part, travellers must have their own ABN.
This program will also be updated over the next few years.
